![]() ![]() Peer MentoringPeer Mentoring is a programme created in consultation with our Safe Communities. It is only available to the network of Canadian Safe Communities and it offers every person involved with issues of safety promotion and injury prevention in those communities a chance to improve their skills and increase their capacity by linking up with an experienced mentor from anywhere in Canada. The programme offers unique opportunities for professional and personal growth.
Introduction Safe Communities Canada knows that every community in our designated network has access to a wonderful resource to help build capacity and commitment—other communities in the network. We have created the Peer Mentor Programme to help you tap into this national resource. We have developed this programme in consultation with your peers across Canada, and we are confident that it will benefit both those offering assistance and those requesting it.
A mentor does much more than provide information about an administrative or programming challenge. A true mentor will find ways to let recipients discover their own strengths and passions, thus helping them to grow, both in character and capacity. This growth will have a direct impact on the viability of The Safe Community Leadership Table as it creates effective collaborative relationships to reduce injury and promote safety in the community. A true mentoring relationship has one other major advantage: as a mentor enables growth in the recipient, he or she also grows-- thus doubling the enrichment equation.
These are principles of the Peer Mentor Programme:
We are confident that the Peer Mentoring Programme will add value and capacity to all communities. We know that access to the Peer Mentoring Programme will be of enormous benefit to candidate communities as they prepare themselves for designation.
If you are interested in being a Mentor, or if you would like to connect with one, please take a few minutes to read the following guidelines before you apply.
