Safe Communities Day 2010
Wednesday, October 6, 2010
On the first Wednesday of October each year, Safe Communities Canada and its network of 44 designated members celebrate Safe Communities Day. This is country wide celebration of our passion and our commitment to our mission: to make Canada the safest country in the world to live learn work and play. Safe Communities across the country, sponsor events and recognize their volunteer, business and community service partners with Ambassador for Safety Awards.
On Safe Communities day, we release our annual National Report Card which records a compelling portrait of capacity, caring, and commitment to the cause of safety across the country. We also announce the National Ambassador for Safety Award recipients, The recipients, selected from the pool of community awards recipients across the country, will accept their award on behalf of all the volunteers, business partners, and community service partners who have supported our communities across the country at our National Conference.
This year, Safe Communities Day will take place on Wednesday October 6, and the national theme of the day is Be Visible. Across the country, volunteer organizations, businesses, health and safety professionals, teachers, students and parents in communities across the country are making themselves visible by wearing personal floatation devices, safety vests, proper helmets and lighting devices to show their commitment to the cause of reducing the risk of injury and promoting a culture of safety in their community.
Safe Communities Day coincides with International Safe Communities Week, and, in Australia and New Zealand especially, communities fill an entire week with activities designed to raise awareness that safety is everyone’s responsibility. We are proud to be a part of this international event and are looking forward to our fourth Safe Communities Day, on Wednesday, October 6, 2010.
